Becoming a BMCAI member.

How do I become a member of the BMCAI?
To apply for BMCAI Ordinary Membership, the applicant must be at least 18 years of age and either own property or reside in the Bunya Mountains.
To apply for Associate Membership, the applicant must be at least 18 years of age, support the objects of the Association, and demonstrate a connection to or affiliation with the Bunya Mountains.
Please note the following conditions for Associate Membership: Associate Members cannot be elected to Management Committee positions. However, they are welcome to engage in discussions, provide advice, support, and opinions, but they cannot vote at meetings.
As of early 2025, BMCAI has 105 Ordinary Members and 12 Associate Members. BMCAI meets quarterly, and because some of our members live in the Bunyas while others own property here but don’t reside full-time, we host a Social Supper after each Quarterly Meeting. This provides an opportunity for members to meet new faces, chat, and socialize
.

What does BMCAI do?
The Bunya Mountains Community Association Inc (BMCAI) is primarily an advocacy, lobbying, and action group that facilitates the aims of the Association, which are stated as:

  • "Provide a voice for consultation with local, state, and federal authorities, on behalf of residents, property owners, and visitors to the Bunya Mountains."

  • "Work collaboratively with relevant bodies to enhance liveability and protect the unique Bunya Mountains village lifestyle, as well as the cultural and environmental heritage of the area."

The Association engages with all three levels of government, the private sector, and the community sector as necessary, depending on the issue or action being addressed at the time.
The goals of BMCAI are:

  1. Enhance community liveability, including safety, for residents and visitors.

  2. Encourage authorities, with the assistance of BMCAI, to establish a natural environment monitoring regime to help manage the impacts of visitors, recreational users, and residents.

  3. Create, develop, and support communication and collaboration to address issues and plan for the future.

  4. Ensure the long-term operation and sustainability of the Association.

BMCAI has a Social, Events, and Fundraising Subcommittee that meets monthly to plan activities and events throughout the year. The Gallery and Events page offers an overview of the work and outcomes of this subcommittee.
BMCAI also hosts the Bunya Mountains Local Disaster Management Sub-Group (see XYZ page) and the Bunya Mountains Dingo Management Stakeholder Group (see XYZ page)
