Community Centre

Project Vision:
Bunya Mountains Community Assoc Inc (BMCAI) will build a dedicated, inclusive, and accessible Bunya Mountains Community Centre that serves residents, workers, visitors, artists, and service providers.. The venue will foster social connection, support cultural expression, promote sustainable tourism and be a gathering place in times of emergencies. This venue will be located at 3384 Bunya Mountains Road, Bunya Mountains. A place to gather in the community where we work, live and play.

Why It Matters:
Despite being a jewel in Queensland's tourism crown, the Bunya Mountains lacks basic public infrastructure such as indoor meeting spaces, town halls, visitor centres, and accessible facilities. The region is geographically divided between two local councils and state-owned roads, creating historical gaps in investment. BMCAI has stepped up to fill this gap with a community-driven solution.

Your Impact
Community Centres provide more than just a meeting space—they build resilience, boost wellbeing, and offer economic and social returns. According to the Neighborhood Centre’s of Queensland 2022 Report, every $1 invested in community centres returns $5.25 in value.

How it will be done:
The Bunya Mountains Community Association Inc. (BMCAI) was formed in 2016 to address social isolation, foster local connection, and advocate for better infrastructure in the Bunya Mountains. BMCAI has a 3 year Action Plan and a key strategy within that Plan is create a Community Centre.

Since 2021, its Social, Events and Fundraising Subcommittee has hosted regular activities and raised over $80,000 toward a permanent Community Centre.

These funds are assisting to meet the Project Development costs of engaging Town Planner, Building Designer, Engineers, Wastewater System designers and submitting the relevant applications.  In October 2025, the Impact Assessable Development Application is in the Public Notification Period.

BMCAI will continue to fundraise but will also seek sponsors and grants to facilitate the building and fit out of the Bunya Mountains Community Centre.

This dedicated page will provide progress updates on this Project and provide information about the fundraising strategies.

Will you help to achieve this much needed facility?
